Michael MacMillan is Executive Chairman of Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc., a leading Canadian specialty broadcaster.
Born in Scarborough, Ontario in 1956, Michael graduated from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario (B.A., Honours Film Studies). In 1978, he co-founded Atlantis Films Limited which merged with Alliance Communications Corporation in 1998 to become Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc.
Today, under Mr. MacMillan's continued leadership, the Company now operates 13 Canadian specialty television networks, including Showcase, Home and Garden Television, Food Network Canada, History Television and Life Network.
The company also co-produces and distributes a limited number of television programs in Canada and internationally including the popular series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. Alliance Atlantis also holds a 51% limited partnership in Motion Picture Distribution LP, Canada's leading film distributor.
Headquartered in Toronto, Alliance Atlantis operates offices in Montreal, London (UK), Dublin, Sydney (Australia), Los Angeles and Madrid. The company’s common shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange – trading symbols AAC.A and AAC.NV.B.
Michael has participated in a number of community focused organizations over many years. Currently, he is involved with The Ontario Trillium Foundation, The Toronto East General Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, The Canadian Club of Toronto, The Toronto International Film Festival and is a Vice-Chair of Upper Canada College.
Michael MacMillan lives in Toronto, Canada with his wife, lawyer Cathy Spoel, and their three children.
